Occasionally I work as a contractor for Stanlee Gatti, the event planner. In 2005 I helped with the opening of George Lucas’ new Letterman Digital Arts Center. It was a HUGE event with over 2,000 guests and star studded concert. The event was a picnic. Stanlee spread hundreds of blankets and pillows out over the big lawn and each blanket had a huge arrangement of hydrangeas in a bucket. The buckets had a stake on the bottom so that they could be secured into the grass. The lunches were in custom wooden boxes and the food {catered by Paula LeDuc} was all organic and locally grown by bay area farmers. Each dish on the menu was designed by different famous bay area chef. The baskets you see in the picture contained local wines and wine glasses. {click on picture to enlarge)

I’m glad you were able to use your picnic idea for the party. I still feel so sorry about the rain ruining your own celebration.

Do you have any ideas for a casual wedding breakfast picnic? I’ve been trying to think of some simple, but special things to serve and would like to also add some nice touches that don’t totally stress me out or break the bank… You know, the kind of details that go into the sorts of parties you throw:)

I love seeing this kind of thing. I am so not in “the know” that it is really fun to see imaginitive cool ideas like this.

This is pretty much absolutely gorgeous. I want to play steamroller across all those cushy, white blankets. (And avoid hitting the baskets and flowers.)
Really, it looks right out of a movie….

I really wish I knew where to get that many blankets! I would love to do something like that.
