Artichokes

I’ve been running a billion errands today and finishing a few projects before I go out of town. I am taking a trip to St. George, Utah this weekend. I grew up in St. George and I haven’t been back in years. I’m excited–I miss the desert.

P.S.: I bought these gigantic artichokes at Whole Foods. They were the size of small cantaloupes. They were so big we had to steam them in different pans. They were the best artichokes I’ve ever had. I’m only telling you this so you can go get your own.

    I’ve been reading your blog for a long while now, but never realized you were from St. George. I grew up there too! (Actually just outside the city) I live in Texas now and miss the red rocks terribly. I just picked up a copy of Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey just to remember it 🙂

    Every time I eat an artichoke I think of you – only because your aunt made them for us when we visited in San Diego. I never had them before that.

    do we get to hang out this weekend other than saturday night?

    How do you eat them?
    We love to make a yoghurt-paprika(peppers?)-ketchup-dip (it’s a bit like a home-made cocktail-dip) and dip the leaves first and then the big inside.
    It’s also yummy with a vinaigrette! (;

    I was raised in the St. George area too (Ivins) and still have a lot of family there. It is a great place!

    I am a daily reader on your blog and never really have commented on anything. Shame on me, so today I will. I never knew you lived in St George. I did as well for 10 or so years. Have fun there for me. btw I love artichokes too (with garlic, butter and lemon juice)
