I was at lunch with one of my friends about a year ago and I was going on and on about all the businesses I want to start and all the jobs I’d like to have. When I asked her what her ambitions were she said, “mostly just be a woman of leisure.” She had to explain what a woman of leisure is to me. Apparently you have all the time in the world to shop and garden and get your nails done and make sure the house looks fabulous and cook or make dinner reservations. This was news to me. How come my mother never taught me about a woman of leisure? I didn’t even know this was an option! Ever since that conversation I’ve been fascinated by the woman of leisure.

I have worked as an event planner/office manager for about three years. After my last big event I decided that I would change jobs. But first I decided I would take a little time off. It is a luxury to have free time in a city as expensive as San Francisco. Most people spend their days working so they can afford to live here. But we figured a way to make it work and since December I have had most days free besides the occasional retail shift.

The time off has been fantastic. My house is always clean, most nights I cook dinner, I’ve been almost constantly in a good mood, I have time to go running every day, my legs are perfectly shaved and my fingers and toes are manicured. I’ve had time to research and buy a press and get my studio set up. While I miss my full-time job immensely, I must say that it feels nice to be so on top of things. My life feels somewhat organized and under control. I would like to point out that I’ve been very busy the last month, I’ve just been busy at things that don’t really make any money. 🙂 I hope everyone gets to be a woman of leisure at least for a few months. It is awesome.
