A Woman of Leisure

I was at lunch with one of my friends about a year ago and I was going on and on about all the businesses I want to start and all the jobs I’d like to have. When I asked her what her ambitions were she said, “mostly just be a woman of leisure.” She had to explain what a woman of leisure is to me. Apparently you have all the time in the world to shop and garden and get your nails done and make sure the house looks fabulous and cook or make dinner reservations. This was news to me. How come my mother never taught me about a woman of leisure? I didn’t even know this was an option! Ever since that conversation I’ve been fascinated by the woman of leisure.

I have worked as an event planner/office manager for about three years. After my last big event I decided that I would change jobs. But first I decided I would take a little time off. It is a luxury to have free time in a city as expensive as San Francisco. Most people spend their days working so they can afford to live here. But we figured a way to make it work and since December I have had most days free besides the occasional retail shift.

The time off has been fantastic. My house is always clean, most nights I cook dinner, I’ve been almost constantly in a good mood, I have time to go running every day, my legs are perfectly shaved and my fingers and toes are manicured. I’ve had time to research and buy a press and get my studio set up. While I miss my full-time job immensely, I must say that it feels nice to be so on top of things. My life feels somewhat organized and under control. I would like to point out that I’ve been very busy the last month, I’ve just been busy at things that don’t really make any money. 🙂 I hope everyone gets to be a woman of leisure at least for a few months. It is awesome.

Jordan, that is cool. Plus, while you live in such a great city, this will give you a chance to explore more, and then ofcourse share. I always have the idea that I’d like to get out there again someday, I don’t want to miss any great stops. 🙂

I’ve been a woman of leisure for almost a year now and it’s fantastic! (I just didn’t know what I did had such a classy name). It’s great, and the thing is, I am actually quite busy. It takes a lot of energy to run a household.

I’m always busy doing things that don’t make any money, but at least they make me happy. 🙂 Good for you.

We would call you a “lady who lunches” in my family.

Being a part of the leisure class is also a dream of mine and the reason I hoard my money like a chipmunk.

Well if you mean don’t earn a paycheck I guess you could say that is me.
I am of this catagory due to health reasons but I keep busy even now. There are days I wonder what I am going to do but somehow the time is filled.
I do not have children but my siblings do and they are all 7 and under. Their mothers require help sometimes.
My parents are of an age where I go in and check up on them.
An until recently my parent’s was standing. Late last month it was torn down (30 yrs in one place) and we had to get the stuff out of it. (It had structural damage that was too costly to fix).
There are some days that hubby takes off in the middle of the week and we love just spending time together. Going into the city(Chicago) and being”tourists”.
Enjoy your time because you never know what lays ahead of you.

I, too, am a happy woman of leisure…I like that name for it!

The last 4 years I’ve been supporting my husband through his engineering degree working at a wonderful art museum and loving it…except for all the extra nights and weekends I never got compensated for and all the church responsibilities I had that also took a lot of nights and weekends and helping too many friends through depressing divorces, and never seeing my husband because even when he was home he was locked in another room doing homework…

So now he’s done with school, he has started a new job that has taken us to Germany for 2 years where I legally cannot work thus I have become a Woman of Leisure…and yet I am so busy! Making quilts, studying German, eating out with friends, getting in shape, locating records on my German ancestors, and taking little trips through Europe! I feel like I’m finally get some quality Me time!

I, too, highly recommend it for a short time to all women!

I once told someone I aspire to be a trophy wife, but now I know I really want to be a lady of leisure! 😉
