Oh Happy Hair Day: Simone Rocha

Simone Rocha always has the most beautifully feminine yet cool clothing. This hairstyle was inspired by her FW 14 collection, the hair was designed by James Pecis. These braids are super versatile and can easily be worn everyday or for a party with a fun headband like we did for this tutorial.

Materials needed: crown headband, salt spray, blow dryer, sectioning clips, small elastics, hair pins

Step 1: Spray salt spray all over your hair from roots to ends.

Step 2: This style looks great because of all the texture the braids have and those perfect wispy bits around the hairline. One of my favorite ways to achieve those wisps is by gathering your hair up with one hand and taking your blow dryer with low air and blowing the hair around your hairline forward. Just the right amount of natural wispy bits will come forward. Now, clip the wispy hairs out of the way until the style is finished so they don’t accidentally get braided into your hairstyle.

Step 3: One of the other elements that help achieve these effortless looking braids is to use your fingers to make the partings for them, focus on making the braid sections equal but don’t worry about them being super straight and clean parts.

Step 4: Now that you have your three equal sized sections, braid each of them into three dutch braids beginning close to your forehead and traveling through the back of your head. Secure them with a small elastic (I would use clear for light hair and black from dark hair). Here’s a dutch braid tutorial in case you need a refresher.

Step 5: Next, take your fingers and pull the braids apart so they are a little looser, begin at the top and work your way to the bottom of your braids. Once you’ve separated them, remove your clips from the bits around your hairline and spray everything with a little salt spray for a little added texture.

This is gorgeous – I need to grow my hair out again! Also, I have so much trouble braiding my OWN hair (my girls are no problem), sigh.
