New Years Eve Floating Photo Installation

New Years Eve Parties are awesome but they can seem a bit loooong. To keep the party lively until the clock strikes 12 it’s nice to have lots of activities for guests to do while they wait to bang those pots and pans. We’re partnering with FUJIFILM Instax Mini 70 to share one fun and festive idea…

This is great because it works well as both decoration and activity. Here is how it works: take photos of your guests with a FUJIFILM Instax Mini 70 instant film camera and the photos come instantly comes out of the camera. So easy! (There’s even a “selfie mode” that automatically adjusts the settings for perfect selfies.) Then have guests write a wish or goal for the New Year on the back with a silver permanent marker. It’s fun to read everybody’s dreams while you wait for midnight. After the party, you can save the photos to make original keepsakes, birthday presents and gifts throughout the year.

Materials needed: Tissue paper, scissors, 1/8″ ribbon (in gold and ivory), 11” balloons (in gold, ivory, and blush), helium, Instax Mini 70 camera and film, silver metallic Sharpie, washi tape

Step 1: Cut tissue paper fringe from a small stack of tissue 4” tall 6” wide, with each fringe about 1 cm wide. Roll the cut fringe so that it becomes a tiny paper tassel and twist the top to keep it together. Make a set of two tassels for each balloon you plan to inflate!

Step 2: Cut a piece of ribbon about 15” long and tie a tassel to each end.

Step 3: Inflate an 11” balloon with helium and tie ribbon around the knot. Leave enough ribbon such that the end floats right around eye level. Tie the tasselled ribbon to the top of the balloon knot.

Step 4: Take pictures with your Instax camera at your party — and invite your guests to participate! Write a fun message or memory on the back of each picture with a silver Sharpie and tape to the end of each balloon. The photos will float around the room sharing your new memories!
