Decorating a Big Room on a Budget

To celebrate my birthday this past weekend I threw a giant dance party at the Oh Happy Day studio (which is now available to rent for events!) The space is painted all white, so it’s a big blank slate. It’s B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L but also a little overwhelming. I struggled to find decorations that will fill up the space, make a big impact, and also be easy to set up (and tear down.) Enter: crepe paper streamers…

On the day of the party, I still wasn’t sure how I wanted to decorate until Jordan suggested going old-school and using tons of crepe paper streamers from the pipes that run along the ceilings. I ran to Party City and bought 40 rolls of 12 different colors.  I had four friends help me string them up and it took about 2 hours to finish the whole room. To get this look, we hung the colors in random order, taping them up about an inch apart, and we found that they looked better when the loops were hung at varying heights.

I love that when used in large amounts simple paper streamers completely transformed the large room. When my friends arrived, everyone was freaking out about how awesome it looked (these photos don’t even do it justice.) We danced under them all night! Success!

You went to Party City? But don’t you have a party supply store?

The OHD Shop does not sell traditional streamers, LG.

Hey! Yes – our shop doesn’t currently carry crepe paper streamers. 🙂

Crepe paper has always been one of my favorite party and craft supplies. It’s cheap and fairly versatile. Great job with the place!

What length did you use? 500 ft or 81ft?

81 feet. Each roll made 2 strands the length of the room.

This is amazing! Did you just hang them over that pole? And was the pole already there or did you put it there?
