Remember the classic Pink Pearl eraser? That’s what inspired this DIY back to school wrapping paper. I loved shopping for school supplies when I was a kid (I still do actually!) so I thought it would be fun to make these little packages of goodies for your kids to open the morning before they go back to school. Maybe the surprise will make the end of summer a little easier?
Supplies: Pink (matte) wrapping paper, card stock, clear tape, scissors, glue stick, bone folder, ruler, straight edge cutter, pencil, black pens/markers, eraser, rectangular gifts/boxes
Step 1: Cut a piece of card stock to match the width of the gift using the straight edge cutter.
Step 2: Measure the height of the gift (this notebook was about 3/4″ tall). Mark this measurement twice on both sides of the card stock rectangle and use a bone folder to make two crease lines.
Step 3: Fold the two creases and hold the folded paper up to the edge of the gift. Let the long tail end of the card stock rest so that it forms a right angle isosceles triangle with the other two sides. Mark the length of this side on both edges of the card stock.
Step 4: Use the bone folder to crease the measurement you just marked. Add a small flap (about 1/2″) to the end and cut. Make another one of these card stock rectangles for the other end of the gift.
Step 5: Apply glue to the flap and form a triangular prism. Repeat.
Step 6: Use clear tape (you may have to cut the tape if it’s wider than the height of the gift) to attach the first prism to one end of the gift. Be sure you’re attaching one of the two shorter sides, not the long side.
Step 7: Attach the second prism in the same way, but reversed so that the shape of the gift looks like an eraser.
Step 8: Hold a single layer of your pink wrapping paper over the top of the gift – if you can see through the paper, it’s a good idea to tape a piece of card stock over the top for a more unified look.
Step 9: Cut a piece of wrapping paper big enough to wrap the gift. On the bottom of the gift, fold and tape one edge over like you normally would when wrapping a present.
Step 10: Leave the gift bottom side up. On the end where the triangle is sloping down, fold the edges over and in – this way the fold are on the bottom of the gift.
Step 11: Trim any excess length and fold the paper flap in to the bottom and tape down.
Step 12: For the other end, fold the paper so that the creases form along the sides and bottom of the gift as shown.
Step 13: On the bottom of the gift, tape these flaps down to prevent bubbling.
Step 14: Fold the end over to the bottom and tape down.
Step 15: In pencil write the desired name in cursive writing in the middle of the gift. In the top left corner write “Back to school for:”
Step 16: Retrace your message in black marker and/or pen.
Step 17: Erase any visible pencil lines.

This is just too cute! Growing up, shopping for school supplies was almost as exciting for me as shopping for back to school clothes – I think this is why now as an adult I have a borderline ridiculous love for office supplies! 🙂 Xo, D

Such a fun idea! I also loved shopping for back to school supplies when I was a kid. It was one of the best parts of going back to school. My oldest is just starting kindergarten so he doesn’t really need anything yet, but I’ll definitely file this away for next year. It certainly will make going back to school even more exciting!

Very cute. We don’t really do back to school gifts in the UK but as an ex-teacher I wish people had done!
