World Cup Swizzel Sticks

Is everyone watching the World Cup? For me, this summer will be remembered as very World Cup focused – I’ve loved watching as many games as I can get to. It’s sad that the U.S. is out but there are still some amazing games left to watch – the remaining four teams play this week to determine who’s in the final on July 13th! Here is a quick way to make some soccer ball drink stirrers to use at a viewing party. They come together easily, despite having a tricky shape (the pentagon) on the ball!

You will need: white and black craft paint, 1″ wooden beads, small wooden dowels, paint brush, craft knife, washi tape (or painter’s tape), small foam pouncer, and a hot glue gun

Step 1: Use the hot glue gun to glue the beads onto the dowels
Step 2: Paint the beads white (having them stuck on the dowels makes this much easier)
Step 3: To make a small stencil to use for putting the pentagon shape on the balls, cut a small pentagon out of washi tape.
Step 4: Carefully stick the pentagon stencil on the ball, and fill it in using the foam pouncer. You can re-use the stencil to make all the pentagons on each ball. Classic black and white soccer balls have 12 pentagons. The easiest way to arrange them is to put two opposite each other around the base of the ball (where it’s attached to the skewer) and then put two more in between those so you have four evenly spaced. Repeat around the top of the ball so they are directly in line with the bottom ones. Then put four more – one in each open space – around the middle of the ball.
