Jumbo Popsicle Garland

I love it when decorations are affordable, super quick, and make big impact and this popsicle garland definitely fits the bill. In case you don’t recognize them, the popsicles are made of chopped up pool noodles! They come in so many different colors that you can make your garland popsicles whatever “flavors” you like – and how about making real popsicles to match your color scheme? And don’t forget to make a giant popsicle piñata!

Supplies: X-acto knife, cutting mat, scissors, string, giant popsicle sticks, masking tape, hot glue gun, pool noodles

Step 1: Extend the blade of the exacto knife out to it’s maximum and cut the pool noodles into 5″ lengths.
Step 2: Apply hot glue to half of the popsicle stick.
Step 3: Attach the popsicle stick into the inside of pool noodle.
Step 4: For double popsicles, apply a thin line of hot glue down the side of the pool noodle and attach to another pool noodle. Be careful doing this step – if your hot glue gun has a low heat setting, be sure to use this when applying glue directly onto the noodle – otherwise the foam will melt.
Step 5: Cut a length of string and use masking tape to attach the popsicles to the string, keeping an equal distance between the popsicles.

Cool idea, but that’s a whole lot of plastic — pool noodles are made of polyethylene. Not environmentally friendly at all. You could curb that by reusing it for years, but still.

WHAT ABOUT ENVIRONMENT!? So sad people get to contaminate this way for a party!

If you don’t like the pool noodles, consider using toilet paper or paper towel or wrapping paper cores. You’ll want to paint or wrap with paper to get the colors, but it’s a recycle friendly project.
