You Can’t Always Get What You Want

I almost titled this “Stop adding this stuff to your cart Jordan, you can’t ever have it.” We are starting to actually decorate the house (way more fun than redoing the electrical!) But lately I’ve found that I’ll narrow down my lighting options for the dining room and realize none of the tabs open in my browser cost less than $9000. Since when did my taste get so expensive? I’m a big believer in saving up for the one thing that is really special and makes your heart happy but $9,000?!?!?!? That is not happening. My father would roll over in his grave and send me another copy of “The Richest Man in Babylon” from heaven. No judgement to the people that can afford it (um…can I come over to your house and look at your light fixtures? ) Anyway, it’s still fun to dream about all the pretty things out there. What is on your dream list?

You can't always get what you want.

A. Lawson Fenning Chair (I think I would have it upholstered in linen.) B. David Weeks Mobile Light is gorgeous. C. This Cherner chair is so sexy. It’s like a sculpture. D. I love the clean lines and brass details on this Milo Baughman chair. E. This light fixture is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.

The light fixture “E”, is perfection…..until you have to dust it. In my house it would look like I was decorating for Halloween, with all the cobwebs that would be attached to it.

I’ve got a $3k turquoise chandelier on the brain. You aren’t the only one. When I think about spending lots on one thing I think of it in terms of Clementine and Beatrice’s educations.

I love anything Milo Baughman, go for that chair. I did an interior design internship with him and I learned so much, most of which had to do with being a person of integrity and not all design. He was a good man, a fantastic designer, and a perfect mentor.

Although yo and I have very different tastes, I also seem to be very good at falling in love with the most expensive items in the store. Sigh. My partner and I have just started looking into details to build a house, and it would seem that I have more expensive taste than I though and than what my budget will allow. But hey, a girl can dream right?

My magic number for things I can’t afford always seems to be $3000. My dream list is all chairs. The Paulistano Armchair by Paulo Medes de Rocha (reachable) and the Slow Chair by Ewan and Ronan Bouroullec, pink please. Some day (big sigh).

This happens in life. I’m right now fixing up our apartment. We’ve finished the retaining walls out back, the floors and new bathrooms, but now It’s into design and making it a home.

Happy you are back from China! Loved all the Instagram shots!

One room I did complete recently was a closer I repurposed as a baby room. Let me know what you think!

i’m loving what you’ve done with the house so far, jordan. i think you should be able to have whatever you want so we can see your vision carried out–wouldn’t that be nice?

have you considered patrick townsend’s black orbit chandelier? i think it could give you a similar look, and at $1,400 it would save you quite a bit of money. plus it’s so pretty!

I liked all the chairs and it is difficult for me to choose the one that I like most. If I were you I would try to combine these styles. Something tells me that it will work great!

I also love the Lawson Fenning Chair! It reminded me of Eric Trine’s Rod+Weave Chair which is gorgeous!

(my favorite with the copper frame)

He was a guest artist speaker for a class I took. He is a lot of fun and his work is light and fresh. I would recommend to anyone to meet him. Pretty inspirational!
