Easy DIY Streamer Garlands

As an event designer I really love any super-quick and easy project. Jordan’s yellow party – awesome! And I don’t even know how often I’ve used her fringey streamers DIY by now. Whipping up lovely decor in bulk is pretty much one of my favorite things. So, today I wanted to show you one of my go-to DIYs when I need to decorate for a party and don’t have a lot of time. I’ve made bunting the regular way: cutting out shape after shape and attaching it to string. The end result sure is great, but really if you want to decorate a bigger space, it’ll take a long time to craft all those garlands. If you’re anything like me, you’ll love this simple way to create bunting from crepe paper streamers in no time at all!

Materials: Crepe paper streamers & scissors

Step 1: Grab some streamers in the color of your choice or cut strips of a bigger roll of crepe paper.
Step 2: Fold up your streamer/strip accordion-style. The length of your fold really depends on the end result you’re going for. Here I made them about 2.5″ long. Just try it out and see what works best for you.
Step 3: You can keep folding for a while; sharp scissors will cut through quite a few layers of crepe paper easily.
Step 4: If you like, draw on the shape you want to cut out. I went for a scalloped look, but triangles are great too.
Step 5: Carefully cut along the line.
Step 6: Unfold and make some more.

The first time I made these, I initially just wanted to find a quick way to make a scalloped backdrop, but then used them for the entire party decor. For the backdrop, simply attach the garlands to your wall with a bit of transparent tape. Great for photo booths or to make your dessert table a little cuter.

What a cute, simple idea! I have dozens of rolls of crepe paper streamers at my house, but I always just twist them and hang them up. I like the idea of scalloping them to make them a little more special.

If you fold them and cut them on a diagonal without going all the way from corner to corner… you can use both sides to hang…

We did this and it turned out great… to hurry up the folding, we wrapped the crepe paper around a pop bottle and then slid it off the end and scrunched it down.. went very fast..
