I’m so happy to finally share some of the changes we’ve been working on the last few months at Oh Happy Day studio. First up is the Kitchen! This space wasn’t always a kitchen. It was a funny room in the back that got great light but wasn’t pleasant to be in since that is where all the boxes and random supplies would get stuffed when we had a project going on. We finally decided to to take the prime real estate and turn it into a little kitchen area. Last month we tackled that sad little room head-on. We knew we wanted to paint the kitchen a bright color and collaborated with Valspar since they have an awesome Love Your Color Guarantee. If you don’t love the color you chose you can try a new one, on them. It made it way easier to try a bold color like Poker Green in a small space. We made the video below showing the transformation that I’m really excited about, I hope you like it!
Here are some details and photos of the final room. We installed white subway tiles halfway up all the walls to make the room feel more like a kitchen. Then we installed Black and White flooring to make the room pop. Instead of a table, we decided we needed some counter space. So, we found a carrera marble remnant from a local vendor and Ikea hacked this island by installing it on top (instead of butcher block.) It’s the perfect space for food prep and photo shoots. The yellow stools are from Target. We installed a simple piece of plywood with these brackets to provide some open shelving for accessories and food. And I love the mint green fridge that stores our team lunches. I love it! It’s so nice to have an awesome space to hang out during breaks. Don’t forget to check out all of the makeover stories on the Valspar Youtube channel!
This post is sponsored by Valspar: available at Lowe’s stores nationwide. To find your nearest retailer, visit the Find A Retailer tool on ValsparPaint.com. And make sure you remember their Love Your Color Guarantee – if you don’t love the first color you choose, you can have another one on them!

A very lovely and colourful space – but can I ask a question about the Smeg fridge?? I’ve been lusting after them for YEARS, and we’re buying a fridge in the next month or two and again, I’m thinking, maybe Smeg? But then I read the reviews and they are horrible. Do you like it? Does it work well??

I spied a red Smeg on your Instagram feed. Did you use that one in your house or changed it for the lovely mint fridge?
Bravo!

I was gushing over how cool you made your kitchen… and then I came to the refrigerator and saw the word “smeg” on the front, and I almost died laughing. Is anyone else here a fan of the TV show Red Dwarf? That’s their all-purpose curse word, kind of like “frak” on Battlestar Galactica.
Oops, my nerd is showing. 😀
