Inspiration Edition No. 18: Back to Basics

I am not as passionate about clothing as I am about parties or home decor. But when I do shop I’m usually drawn to clean lines and basics. It finally feels like Fall this week in San Francisco so it makes me  want to evaluate my wardrobe and restock my basics. I’ve found as long as I have some good solid pieces its easy to put outfits together like throwing in a patterned sweater or adding some red lipstick. Here are some of my favorite pieces that I wear every day and some that I’ve got my eye on. Where do you buy your basics at?

A. Uniqlo Oxford (I have several of these in white.) B. Leather Bag I’ve been eyeing this basic leather bag since last Fall, I love it. C. Perfect Boots. Not too tall, not too short. D. Camel Coat with an interesting neckline E. Army Coat to wear with jeans or to dress down an outfit. F. Slim Cropped Pants I have these pants and I wear them several times a week.

Lovely collection of basics. I also appreciate the affordability factor: Uniqlo, Zara, and the Gap!

I buy my basics from a few different stores. But I find that Madewell makes really great basics!

That Zara coat is fantastic. I like american apparel, madewell, and a variety of flash sales.

Great choice of basics! The collar of the coat is fantastic!
I love to buy my basics at H&M and Gina Tricot – both are not too expensive and a great variety of colours!

Hi Nora! They are all available. The Uniqlo army coat I saw in the store but I linked to the only thing I could find online.

I have the Madewell bag and I am very happy with it. It dresses up my casual worklook. Also, on the sale section at Madewell, I scored some oxfords for $19.99. I love all the items you put together !!!

What a treat to see that all of these picks are from widely and more affordable lines! I have nothing against all the lovely goodies featured in many blog posts but it’s so disappointing when I find out that they’re all well out of my budget range. (PS: Uniqlo is one of my favorite shopping destinations, and being in NY I’m lucky to have three locations I can visit. Hooray for SF getting one this month, too!)

So…this is pretty much my wardrobe. When it comes to basics, I invest a little more in them, because I wear them all the time. I have a similar oxford from Ralph Lauren I got over 10 years ago and am still wearing. H&M is my favorite right now for affordable go-to pieces, like the basic tee, skirt, or pant. I also go to J.Crew and Ann Taylor a lot for long lasting, timeless pieces.

I love the leather bag, sometimes it’s difficult to find something simple and nice and being a bag it has to be comfortable as well!

I love these pants, too! Along with the J.Crew version (Minnies). I have a couple pairs and wear them all the time. Perfect for nearly every occasion.

I have the brown leather bag and ADORE it. I’ve been carrying it almost exclusively since April.

I love a blue oxford, especially on the weekend with a comfy pair of jeans or black stretch pants. Great look for a foggy and cool day like today.
