Here is another Halloween Costume in our Homemade Halloween Series. This might be my favorite yet and was really simple to put together. It basically involves cardboard boxes and a trip to the craft store. This costume was requested by Roman but when we went to try it on him he would have none of it. So Moses agreed to be our model (he is at a way more bribe-able age.) See full instructions below!
Click through for full instructions and photos.
Materials Needed: Cardboard Boxes, Paper Towel Roll, Styrofoam Ball, Tape, Tacky Glue, Box Cutter, Straps, Dowels.
For the Costume: Pilot’s Cap, Goggles, Scarf, Jacket, and Boots.
Step 1: If you can find a round-ish box even better (we found a helium tank box that worked great) but you could also make a round box or just use a rectangle shaped box. Cut two wing shaped pieces and glue them to the top and the bottom of the box.
Step 2: Cut holes in the bottom and the top of the box just big enough for the body to step into. Attach wooden dowels at the end of the wings with glue.
Step 3: To make the propeller cut two propeller pieces out of cardboard. Glue them together at the center and cut a hole in them just the size of the paper towel roll. Put the paper towel through the propeller and push the styrofoam ball onto the end. Make a hole in the front of the airplane for the paper towel roll to fit through. Trim the paper towel roll and stick it into the hole.
Step 4: Paint the airplane as desired then attach straps from the front to back to sit on the child’s shoulders.
