My San Francisco Apartment: Living Room
There were lots of extra outtakes that didn’t get used in the Design*Sponge feature the other day so I’m going to post the rest of them here this week and talk a little bit more about our little apartment. First of all it is a true one bedroom apartment (no dining room) and we lived there 3.5 years. It’s not a large apartment but as one bedroom apartments go its decent sized. Because of the space we really had to be efficient. I also have to give a shout out to Jenny from Little Green Notebook who helped me last year with the big decisions like get reupholstery etc. You can see those living room pictures back then right here.
A few notes and sources: The Ikat Settee is from HSN | Bright Painting by Michelle Armas | Other Artwork is a print of Paul’s or from thrift stores | Yellow Chairs are from Craigslist but were reupholstered in yellow velvet | The dressers and green side table are from Craigslist and the Thrift Store | The Coffee Table is from Ikea but we painted the silver legs brass | The brass lamps are from Craigslist |The patterned table lamps are from Anthropologie | Vintage Persian Rug is from Craigslist | Corner desk unit is from Ikea but we painted it | Toy shelf is from Craigslist (for toy sources go here.)
All photos by Aubrey Trinnaman who is not only a great photographer but an amazing stylist and the nicest person ever.

I love this apartment and can’t wait to see more pictures from you Paris abode! Would you mind sharing what you spray painted the coffee table legs with?
Thanks!
Beautiful! Everything is so cheerful.
I wish I had your style. My living room resembles an unintentional junk yard. So sad. I’m working on it.
I love the LIght and the way that you did not shy away from using books as eye candy and surfaces for use. Makes having “too many books” something you don’t have to worry about so much. Just cycle them in and out of the coffee table areas. Yay for San Fran and the Huge windows.

lovely! love the globes!
Love the colorful artwork near your work station and those globes are so adorable, definitely a nice addition to your home. I thought your coffee table looks gorgeous and then I found out it’s from Ikea. What a fabulous idea to paint the legs brass to make it looked more luxe!
Lovely home!

loving the book storage!
So miss my San Francisco apartment days … people underestimate craigslist, I think!
Your apartment is so colorful and inspiring. I love your touches of gold/bronze.
Love the globe collection and your blue work cabinet !! Beautiful home!
love it! i need to find some small globes like those for my boys rooms! i want to hang some of them from the ceiling!
My favorite part is your quote from Le Petit Prince! It’s one of my favorite books. Are you reading it while you are in France? If you’re looking for another weekend getaway, St. Exupery’s hometown of Lyon is beautiful and has some of the best restaurants in France. Be sure to check out rue Merciere.
I have to know… how did you manage to have all the books and accessories everywhere, in a small place, with two little boys? My kids throw our stuff everywhere, especially my toddler boy! We don’t even have a coffee table because they would bang their heads on it.
can you please, please tell me what paint you used for the coffee table? pretty please? did you have any issues with it scratching off?
I really like your ikat sofa and the black drawer table, though your whole place looks amazing!
Love all your art books…and that corner desk unit is really clever (and pretty in it’s repaint job)!
Love the way you mixed and matched different patterns and all the bursts of colour.
your globe collection just kills me. i have always been obsessed with globes but i juts don’t have room for them right now. one day….

I love that you have so many many books and they are all accessible. And I have to say that I am constantly trying to channel your style. I’m afraid I fall short but it is something nice to shoot for.
I’m inspired that I can have a book collection and make it look good and still have them within arm’s reach. I’m really curious about the stack of green items on top of the bookshelf.
So beautiful + fun! It’s great to finally see it! : )
Oh I love seeing these extra pictures. I am greedy for extra details! Any chance you could share what you painted the coffee table legs with?
SO beautiful, Jordan.
Alyssa, I was wondering the exact same thing. My daughter pulls out/down EVERYTHING. Except her toys, that is. Those she pretty much ignores!
thanks for the peek in your living room.
i heart it
its so vibrant and cosy
Do you know what color/brand/finish the white paint is in your living room? I’m painting my house and am on the hunt for a great white shade. Thanks!
This is so inspiring. So many interesting looking books too!
My favorite part of your house — the “dessine moi un mouton” picture — oh how I love the petit prince!
I love the books stacked on the coffee table. You gave me inspiration to do the same with mine and I love it!
I love all of the seating! I think I could be entertained for hours in your living room — so many fun things to look and interact with! Thanks for sharing
You are so creative with small spaces…I need you to come to my apartment and work some magic! I also love how chic your place is even with two little boys!
I love using collections of things in decorating- the globes are a great touch! I’ve started a small collection of Eiffel Towers in my living room, which also has a huge Paris print from IKEA as the main focal point. It’s a beautifully decorated space!
Very cool space!
This is what my living room would look like if I were cool enough to pull it off. Maybe I am… we shall see.
Love your home! I have a small house with 2 little kids. Their share a small room and we are struggling with finding a bunk bed that fits in the room. I love the beds you have for your boys, how compact they are. Are they custom-made?
Wow. Your place is gorgeous! You’ve redefined coffee table books!

I have to say, I love your old apartment. I’m sure you have days where you miss it a lot (and some days not so much).
I was very surprised when I saw Michelle’s painting in your room – I realized I went to high school with her and thus had to go check out all of her awesome paintings. Love them all! Thanks so much for the great find.
All I can really say is: WOWZA
I love the tall ceilings, floor length windows and creative uses of color throughout your San Fran apartment.
Too cute. I love the globes.
Jordan, dont know if you remember me- it’s anna fowler, a fellow “cleft momma”. Your SF apartment was so cute!!! Wow you have a way with making things look so cozy and attractive. I wanted to tell you, I ordered some of those tin ohio art world banks online last year. They are so cool. My parents bought a bunch back in the seventies and made little banks for us kids with them (the globes were are mission banks). I actually made my kids some banks with them too recently: http://fowlerfam.blogspot.com/2011/05/bankity-banks.html
You’ll have to check it out. Hope all is well with you guys!
