Neat idea. I did something similar for my little boy's birthday party — I just hung strips of streamers from an exposed beam between our kitchen and dining area. I hadn't thought about suspending them from a string or wire. I'll have to keep that in mind for another time!

This is the best party idea for children too! I had a rainbow birthday party when I was four. Everyone came dressed in their favorite color (sort of a fail since almost every girl was in pink) and we had a scavenger hunt where you found items wrapped in colored tissue paper, according to "your" color. Everything is rainbow and crayolas and happiness!
