Baby Names

I’m feeling very predictable after seeing this list of baby names. The name of my baby and of almost all my friends’ children are on this list. Including the list we have for names of our future children. It is sort of depressing when someone can put you in a box so easily. But it actually is a really good list of names. 🙂

Oh hey, who knew that my parents were a few letters away from being hipsters back in the late ’70s…!

  2. Diana

    October 27, 2008

I like most (if not all) of those names. I guess that makes me a hipster! Oh well!

I wonder if there is a secret reason why your thinking about it…hum…???

I hate that my daughter’s name is on this list. She was named for her great grandma, I wasn’t trying to be cool, I swear! 😉

I’ve been in Brooklyn too long. Tons of names from my short list are on this list.

I really am a hipster. Nuts.

ella made the list but my ellie did not, guess i am not such a hipster. not such a bad a thing i suppose;)

it probably doesn’t count if it’s an old family name, but really, who cares if these are hipster names? i like them so much more than addison or jake.

right now it doesn’t matter if it’s a hipster name or not, i need IDEAS before i can be more discriminating!

ouch, huh. i felt the same way after coming across this list the other day. almost all of my names for the new babe made that list. that one and the yupster list. that puts me in the category of yuppie/hipster. all this time i thought i was clever/unique. ha!
loved this and love your pretty blog, lindsay

my kids are both on there. wondering if that is good or bad… really love all those names!

crap. i’m a hipster. we didn’t realize that naming our daughter Guthrie, and calling her Gus for short was such a cool thing to do 🙂

ok. ok. i’m secretly excited about being a hipster. I live in Iowa. This makes me feel slightly cosmopolitan or something.

Almost every name we have picked out is on here too

That’s crazy. I totally thought we were original when we named Hudson. And most of the other names I’m keeping in mind for future children are on the list too. I guess I’ll have to start thinking again.

Apparently I am not a hipster- but my daughters name “Brooklyn” is a great name not many have…yet!

ha- yeah i saw that list and actually liked so many of the names, despite being very conscientious when i named my kids not to have names from the top 100 list. Of course my son’s name is now on the top 100 (wasn’t then!) and my daughter’s name is one letter away from angelina jolie’s daughter’s… oh well, what are you going to do. names, just like everything else, follow trends and always have.

I see my reserved girl name Violet is on that list, but none of the others I chose are there. I agree, there are some good names on that list.

  19. Becki

    October 27, 2008

It is a good list, and does have almost all future baby names I have thought of, plus one I have already used! I guess we are all predictable.

  20. kim

    October 27, 2008

Several of my future baby names are on the list too. I guess I’m hip afterall! Who knew?

I swear this is the student list from Ruby’s kindergarten class! I kind of adore all of these names, it must be a generational thing.

  22. melissa jade

    October 27, 2008

horray! none of my baby names are on it!

  23. Joanna Goddard

    i love the name lulu!

  24. amy

they probably just saw what you named your baby and put it on the hipster list. I bet.

  25. liz stanley

    October 27, 2008

yes, i saw that list and totally laughed. i know so many people who have babies with those names!!! including some of our nieces/nephews

great to be in your company. my daughter-to-be (in 5 short weeks) found her name on this list.

I think a lot of these names are popular because of grandparents. I’m done having kids but if I were to have a daughter I’d name her Matilda June, after my paternal grandmother and grandfather. Not trying to be hip at all.

I’ve always loved the names Iris and Ivy…humph.

  28. Stephanie

    October 27, 2008

    Great minds thinking alike?

(Although, speaking as a person who had a relatively popular name, I did hate the fact that all through school I was always “Stephanie M.” – there were always too many others to just get to be Stephanie.)

My kids’ names are not on it, but both of my dogs are and they are 10years old. I did live in Brooklyn then…

How are they able to hone in so well on that?! Sheesh! Back to the drawing board I guess…

I love all these names – but I love what we named our dd the best – Esme (annoying pretentious literary name, but think it’s still below the radar)

there are a LOT of great names on the list. and why can't you still use the name you love no matter what the list says? your baby will still be 100% unique and 100% special, even some other "hipster's" baby has the same name.

also, this is a way fun baby name website – type in any name & it shows you the trend in the name for the last 100 years! http://www.babynamewizard.com/voyager

I am a Lila and was named after my wonderful grandmother. I can honestly say I didn’t really come across anyone my age with the same name until college. I think it is really funny that my name is now trendy!

If I ever have a child, she or he will be named after my grandfather. His name is common, but I don’t really care becaues I love it!

Ok, my son’s name is on there…And, I’ve been hearing MORE and MORE people naming their son the same name! (There’s a cute little boy at church with his name, same age and all…) I feel slightly betrayed.

you know its bad when pb kids has a linen line named after your kid. AND when your least favorite celebrity has a kid with the same name. NUTS! its a family name and i’ve loved it since i was a teenager, i swear! (p.s. i also loved the smoot family name harlow, and wanted to use it for a girl till n. richie stole it. hee hee!)
