    Professional calligraphers use a light box so they can see a template (straight lines) through the envelope or paper.

    Since I’m a beginner I will also use it for tracing so I can correctly learn the hand.

    As my mom is a calligrapher, my dad made her a light box using a glass fronted shallow cabinet and putting in a lightbulb! Cheap, easy and effective.

    My calligraphy instructor had the wood and plexiglass frames made and sold them to us for $10. We had to then go to Home Depot and buy the light. I cannot imagine doing calligraphy without it! Once you have one you’ll be amazed you were able to live without! So worth the money.
