Nothing is Certain but Death and Taxes

We’ve been doing taxes this week. Before there was Paul taxes took me about one hour. Now that we have all the working-for-yourself issues it takes FOREVER! We’ve only been married two years and it seems each year we get better and better at being organized. But we’re still not there yet. We finally broke down and bought Quickbooks last week so we can start keeping track of our finances. Hopefully this will make it a cinch for taxes next year. I still am figuring out the best way to manage paper. I am pretty good about ripping up junk mail as soon as it comes into the house but sometimes I get behind and I end up with paper piles. My friend Rachel seems to have a really good system. Here is her Paper Piles Be Gone system part one and part two. I’m still figuring out what system will work best for us. Any suggestions?

Do you use an accountant? If not it is worth the money.

JOYS filing system and an accountant. Trust me as someone who worked at the IRS. A CPA is worth every cent and will save you money.
