Today we’re sharing a special DIY by Sally Shim. Sally’s been contributing to Oh Happy Day for over a year, and now I’m excited to announce that she just released a new book: Pretty Packages (you can order it by clicking here.) In the book, she shares 45 step-by-step gift wrapping DIYs – from wrapping paper to gift boxes and gift tags. I already own a copy and I really love it. This week we’ll be giving away copies of Pretty Packages along with a packaging supply goody bag to 3 Oh Happy Day readers. Make sure you click through below for all the contest details and to see the instructions for these fun Felted Ball Garlands! (PS – To see more of Sally’s contributions to Oh Happy Day, click here!)

I’ve got a great giveaway today! Have you heard of Gemvara? It is a super easy way to buy customizable jewelry. They have a great selection and the process is super easy. Once I picked out a few, I could totally customize them using 20 different gemstones and 9 different metals. And there is no stress about buying them sight unseen because Gemvara offers 101-day returns (even on customized and engraved pieces.) They make all of the jewelry in New York and the shipping is super fast. I ended up customizing the Micropave Band for myself – I loved the classic look of the diamonds & gold band. But the Zoe Band with black diamonds also caught my eye. It’s an easy way to get unique jewelry at a great price.

This Captured Series is sponsored by Best Buy. Get unbeatable prices on all digital cameras to capture your family memories this holiday season!
Last year I took Moses to get his first real haircut at a classic barbershop. (His first actual haircut was a buzz given without my permission by my brother who was babysitting him–but that is another story!) I brought my friend Aubrey Trinnaman along who photographed the whole thing. It’s just a small thing but I’m so happy to have these photos to document the little rites of passage. Plus the chops on the barber are pretty amazing. You can see more pictures right here.
I’m partnering with Federated Media to host a little contest on Flickr where you could win a $500 gift certificate to Best Buy. All you have to do is upload a photo to Flickr that captures a family memory. Then make sure the photo is tagged public so we can see it and then add the tag: #CapturedPhotoContest_OhHappyDay You can find the official contest rules right here. The contest ends on December 24th, and you can enter up to five photos! I love the submissions so far, if you want to check them out you can see them right here.
I started this blog one day because I was bored at work. I never would’ve imagined the good people and things it has brought into my life five years later. Thank you so much for reading and for being so supportive. I feel super lucky that this is my job and I couldn’t do it without all the lovely people that read Oh Happy Day. So I wanted to do something fun to give back. As a thank you I am doing a giveaway for a 7 DAY TRIP FOR TWO TO PARIS, FRANCE! It’s true. I’ve put together a major giveaway that includes 7 night stay at Mama Shelter, the hippest boutique hotel in Paris. Roundtrip Airfare from the continental United States to Paris, France. And on top of that I will personally host* the winner for two days and take them around to my favorite spots in Paris.
Do you have your berets and striped shirts all packed and ready to go? Great! All you have to do is enter. There are four ways to enter and no purchase is necessary. You can enter each of the four ways one time during the contest (if you enter all four ways it just increases your chance of winning.) Here is how:
HOW TO ENTER (You may enter each way one time.)
1. Leave a comment in the comment section below this post.
2. “Like” the Oh Happy Day on Facebook (if you already “like” it then you’re already entered.)

A few important details. This trip has to be completed by the end of 2011, so make sure you are going to be able to get away in the next seven months. Also, the winner is responsible for any and all expenses beyond hotel, and airfare. Possible additional expenses could include: airline baggage fees, ground transportation in France, meals, tickets for museums etc. You have to be 18 to enter and sorry to my dear friends and family you are automatically disqualified! For Official Contest Rules go here.
*Totally optional (if you just want to see the sites sans tour guide that’s cool too!)
Now I want to tell you about the sponsor Mama Shelter! When I thought about hotels I wanted to collaborate with they were my first choice. I was so pleased when they agreed to sponsor this. Mama Shelter is a design-y boutique hotel in the 20th arrondissement of Paris (read their NYT review here). The hotel was designed by well known designer, Philippe Starck. Each room is done differently with art and cool installations. I absolutely love hotels like this! But the best part, besides being super cool they are really affordable and are even considered a “budget” hotel! I always recommend this place to my friends that are coming through Paris. It’s cool, it’s affordable, and an easy 17 minute bus ride to city center. Plus doesn’t their logo below make you love them? Yea for Mama Shelter!
I hope you are as excited about this as I am! I’ve only been living in Paris for four months but I’ve already fallen in love. Let me show you my favorite places like: the Paris Flea Market, the fresh food markets, Laduree for some macarons, Adorable ribbon stores, and help me on my quest to find the best hot chocolate in Paris. I’ve been saving up for this for a while, besides the hotel I’m personally footing the bill. It’s my way of saying thank you to all my readers. Now what are you waiting for?… Go Enter!
[Post Edit 6/8/2011: The comments should be working now. Thanks for being patient! I wish I could fly everyone to Paris.]
