DIY Candy Garland

by Kathleen Ballos

I have a huge sweet tooth, so it is near impossible for me to resist a good candy garland. There have been some really fun ones here on Oh Happy Day in the past  too: candy lights garland, cotton candy garland, and jelly bean garland. Use any color tissue paper to whip up this sweet little garland for your next party.

Back To School Wrapping Paper

by Kathleen Ballos

Remember the classic Pink Pearl eraser? That’s what inspired this DIY back to school wrapping paper. I loved shopping for school supplies when I was a kid (I still do actually!) so I thought it would be fun to make these little packages of goodies for your kids to open the morning before they go back to school. Maybe the surprise will make the end of summer a little easier?

Favor Cup Paper Flowers

by Kathleen Ballos

Do you know the small paper cups you fill with ketchup at fast food restaurants? That’s what these flowers are made out of! When a friend showed me that if you tug on the sides the cup expands, my mind was blown. Maybe this is common knowledge but I had no idea! Anyhow, with a quick coat of paint and paper centers these favor cup flowers are the perfect way to decorate for your next party. (And check out even more paper flower crafts!)

Foil Space Mobile

by Kathleen Ballos

One of my favorite unexpected craft supplies are the foil baking sheets available at grocery stores. They are so affordable and versatile! This time I’ve used them to make these simple night sky mobiles – wouldn’t they be fun for a space party? I made a few of rocket party poppers to go with it. So fun!

Hidden Prize Birthday Cake

by Kathleen Ballos

A little while ago I was looking through a 1950s craft book and read about the Christmas tradition of a Jack Horner pie. Traditionally, the book says you wrap small presents, tie each one to a string, and put all the presents in a box/basket with the string tails hanging out of the box – then your party guests each take a string and pull it to see which prize they get.

This tissue paper birthday cake was inspired by that idea – instead of loot bags, have party guests each grab a string, pull, and see what they get! Alternatively, this would also be a fun way to distribute prizes for game-winners throughout the party. (P.S. Fan of paper cakes? Make these candle and cake hats for your guests!!)
