Matisse Inspired Autumn Mobile

by Ashley Page Norton

I recently saw the Matisse cut outs show at the Met, and it was definitely inspirational. This simple mobile is reminiscent of the shapes Matisse used, but more directly taken from fall leaves. The warm metallics and wood tones will look beautiful over your Thanksgiving table, or just hanging around the house as the season changes.

Neon Party

by Ashley Page Norton

I love exploring hardware stores for craft supplies – there’s always great inspiration to be found. The rope, twine, and cord section is my favorite – so many projects can come out of these materials, especially when they’re in an awesome palette. After finding a neon orange, pink, and yellow, I developed three ideas using this brightly colored parachute cord: placemats, placecards, and coasters. Either together or separately they would be perfect decorations for a cheerful party!

Crepe Paper Petals Wall Hanging

by Ashley Page Norton

I love looking at images of flower torans, which are festive garlands hung in Indian households as celebratory decorations, and decided to figure out a crepe paper version. Torans are so fun – the patterns and colors are super cheerful. There are a million ways to use this technique – you can make a wall hanging, garlands, bunting, leis, etc., and you can scale them to suit whatever space you’re decorating. They would look great as a backdrop at a party or wedding!

World Cup Swizzel Sticks

by Ashley Page Norton

Is everyone watching the World Cup? For me, this summer will be remembered as very World Cup focused – I’ve loved watching as many games as I can get to. It’s sad that the U.S. is out but there are still some amazing games left to watch – the remaining four teams play this week to determine who’s in the final on July 13th! Here is a quick way to make some soccer ball drink stirrers to use at a viewing party. They come together easily, despite having a tricky shape (the pentagon) on the ball!

Giant Paper Bead Garland

by Ashley Page Norton

I love making simple necklaces out of beads (evidence here) and often have my crafty friends over to work on jewelry projects. This garland would be perfect decor for a jewelry crafternoon but it’s so bright and graphic it could work for just about anything. These mega versions of my favorite seed beads come together quickly using whatever paper you have on hand. If you love stringing beads together this will be right up your alley!
