Last week I took my friend Sharon to the fondue restaurant Refuge des Fondus in Montmartre. Paul and I had eaten there on our honeymoon and we loved it so I was excited to go back and see if it was as great as I remembered it. The diners are almost exclusively tourists and while I usually strive for a more authentic experience this place is so fun it is an exception. It is a very small restaurant with two long tables, if you sit on the wall side you have to literally climb over the table. The atmosphere is very casual and you will probably end up in your neighbors’ conversations because you will be sitting so cozy next to them. But the most hilarious part of this restaurant is that they serve their beverages in baby bottles. It is pretty funny to be sitting there with a long table full of adults and baby bottles are scattered throughout the table. The meal is a pretty good deal too: 18 Euros will get you a huge pot of fondue, things to dip in it, dessert and several drinks. They do seatings every 2 hours and you’ll need reservations. Then when you are done walk up to Sacre Couer steps to see the lights and people watch.

funny…I dont know that place but I was living in Paris my favourite bar, a tiny tiny place in the 6eme served their cocktails in baby bottles too…
I would send you there, but they had to close and now you will find a papeterie there…

There was a place JUST like this in Grenoble, called Biberon (baby bottle) but it, too, only served Fondu and you had to climb over the tables.
Drinking wine out of a baby bottle is an off sensation though…m

Oh, cute! I don't know this place too… but just wondering… drinking anything else than white wine or tea while eating cheese fondue isn't it supposed to give you a stomachache?

i love this place, too! especially what a tight fit it is and how they have to move the table for you to jump over. oh, and the fondue (and wine!) is good, too. 🙂

Oh how weird – I was JUST talking about Refuge des Fondus yesterday! Went there for my friend's birthday way back in 2000 – yikes I feel old! Looks like it is still cozy and delicious!

when i visited my sister in paris this past summer, we were staying in an apartment that was just up the street from this place. i had to walk ON the table to get over to our side of the booth, which was wedged right up by the bar you pictured. being by that bar was the best place because our baby bottles never got more than half empty – constant refills! i loved it! we also left our mark on the wall. i'd love to go back some day and see if it's still there! 🙂

Oh man, I LOVE fondue! I wish we had known about it on our honeymoon. We did a 24-hour stay in Paris on our way home from Greece. We basically ate our way from one delicious country to another.

mmm … i was visiting my brother last weekend and we had a little fondue party in the living room, it was lots of fun! i'd never made fondue before, but it was super easy (i know, how hard can melting cheese be?) and delicious.

Oh I've been there, it is excellent! The food is lovely and quite good value for money, and you get absolutely obliterated drinking wine out of a bottle. I had such fun there!
