Spring Cleaning

I’ve gotten into a major spring cleaning frenzy. I went through my closet yesterday and asked the questions: Do I love it? and Do I wear it? and if I didn’t say yes to both then it got put in a pile for goodwill. {A trick I learned in Domino.} I also made a pile of things to be mended and things that need to be taken to the tailors to be altered. Today I am tackling the bathroom and all those drawers and cupboards. Going through things makes me evaluate the way I’m living my life. Where did I get all this stuff? I made a New Years Resolution this year to not buy anything new for six months and I think I’m ready to start that come April. {Yikes!} Have a good weekend.

I’ve been on a spending fast the last few weeks (minus on slip up on a pair of boots) and it’s surprisingly relaxing. Being in a constant state of wanting and wishlisting is exhausting. I won’t go on like this forever, but it’s really been nice to hit the pause button.

    Have a lovely weekend!

    Bully for you Jordan!

I’m looking forward to having some time in the new few weeks to embark on spring cleaning of our house. Trucking all of our things across the country made me realize we don’t use or need 1/2 of the stuff we have, so my resolution for 2009 was to reduce our “stuff” by half.

Our lives will be lighter and simpler and that’s what I really need right now.

I’m feeling the same way as you Jordan but haven’t quite got the motivation! And… I love your motivation about your closet, another great idea from Domino!

I’ve been de-cluttering my house for months now, it feels nice to only live with the essentials. I need to go through my closet, even if it means wearing the same favorite tshirts over and over

Thanks for the motivation. We’re moving to Paris for the summer and it’ll be easier to pick what to bring if I just throw out the unnecessary…

I'm just wrapping up week 10 of a spending freeze (3 month challenge which I'll probably continue out of necessity since I'm unemployed at the moment…) and it's much easier than one would think. For me it's been a really good time to evaluate what I have & what I need, and I think that post-freeze I'll be a lot more mindful of what I buy. Not to say that I won't ever buy something frivolous again, but it's a good way to reset your spending habits. I've even gone to Anthro a few times recently & haven't been tempted to break the rules…that's pretty hard! Good luck!

I always wanted to do the ‘no spending for a certain period of time’ thing…but so afraid I can’t stick to it!!!
Oh and speaking of Domino, I’m hosting a giveaway for their Book if you are interested!

I too have been doing a little spring cleaning. I love to burn a scented candle and put on some jazz. Good luck with the cleaning & sorting.

Question: If you can’t buy anything new can you buy used? I’m thinking that might be the only way I could survive a no-new-things fast. Please keep us updated – I’m very interested in how this goes for you!

I have been trying to do this for a week now. I started the goodwill bag, and there are still so many things I WANT to put in it, but can’t get the courage to do it! I think I’m going to right this minute! I am going for a very minimal closet.

I often have “where did I get all of this stuff?” moments (like the one you described). Whenever they strike me, I usually pull out a few big trash bags and collect items from around my house to deliver to the local Goodwill.

editing is the rather than accumulating is the real secret to great design.. and I keep telling myself that..

I just got rid of about 60% of my clothes, which took about 6 weeks (I had a lot of clothes!) and the funny thing is, I don’t miss them – the only thing I’ve missed so far is a white Gap T shirt that I threw because it had holes in it! Just popped here from frolic and loving your roof party too…

I’m on a “no buying new clothes for a year!” so far so good, and it feels great to spring clean the cupboards. When did we start having so much stuff!! Simplify life I say!

I have been in the spring cleaning mood lately too. Soon I will need to tackle my wardrobe and sort through the clothes that I don’t need or even like.

Good luck with the rest of your spring cleaning! 🙂

I have been reading your entries right through my morning holiday, and I will have to admit the entire article has been very enlightening and rather well written. I thought I would permit you to realize that for some explanation why this weblog does no longer view neatly in Internet Explorer 8. I desire Microsoft would forestall changing their software. I have a question for you. May you thoughts replacing weblog roll hyperlinks? That might be truly neat!
