Last week Paul and I watched King Corn on public television. It is a documentary about the corn industry in America. It is very insightful and funny and definitely not preachy. {Have I mentioned how I dislike any group or movement that furthers it’s cause through guilt?–are you listening environmental movement?}

I’ve been a reader of your blog for a while now, but this is my first comment! We also watched King Corn and found it really interesting. I just finished reading Michael Pollan’s books (Omnivore’s Dilemma and In Defense of Food) and it’s all so interesting to me–not to mention alarming. And I agree with gDiapers being cute. We are actually giving cloth a try with our 15 month old. I found 2 programs that make it somewhat risk free–so I figure it’s worth it. I agree completely with what you said about disliking any group or organization that furthers it’s cause by guilt. A big pet peeve of mine. Good for you for saying it/typing it out loud.

I’m a Design Mom reader and by extension read and love your blog. We saw King Corn at an independent theater here in Missouri, and Curt Ellis (one of the guys who made the film) was here to take questions. It was so interesting and so great. And didn’t you love the music? I bought the soundtrack…

I don’t notice too much “guilt” in the movement. I don’t go around judging people for plastic… Oh, but you live in San Francisco… yeah, I could see where you’d feel the guilt!

I hate that about the environmental movement, too. It’s becoming downright dogmatic, when it should be enjoyable. The hardcore people really need to stop shaming, because the only thing that will accomplish is a straight-up rejection of the ideas.

ok, ok, calm down folks. I just deleted a couple of anonymous comments that were trying to be mean.
I’m not sure what all the raucous is about. Because I alluded to the fact that sometimes the environmental movement comes off as preachy? I sort of thought that was common knowledge. They did a whole thing on NPR about it a few months ago.

Those comments were not trying to be mean Jordan. I find it odd that three commenters pointed out a direction they’ve noticed in your blog and you’ve deleted all the comments. If you believe those were mean, well, you’re ignoring that the point wasn’t your comment on the environmental movement alone, it was a culmination of tone that the blog has taken on. Good luck.

First off. I usually don’t give anonymous comments or comments with closed profiles much weight–particularly if they are especially opinionated.
I haven’t made any conscious changes in the tone of the blog. I’m so sorry if anyone feels there is a {negative} change.
The comments I deleted were not specific so I can only assume they were referring to this post since I’m not aware of any change in the tone.

We watched King Corn when it came to Savannah. It was very educational.
