San Francisco Open Studios

Soon after we got married we decided to have three big splurges a year. Every year we invest in a nice piece of art, eat at a ridiculously expensive restaurant, and take a fancy vacation. We like to save our money too but those three things we plan for and spend a lot of money on. October is San Francisco Open Studios and is usually the month we buy art. They organize all the artist studios in the city and divide them up between all the weekends in October. There are maps for each weekend. It is a great way to find really cool art. The best part is since the artists don’t have to give a gallery a cut they usually price their paintings a bit lower than normal. Click here to download maps. {Paul’s weekend is October 19th-21st.}

    thanks for the head’s up! Dave & I also buy a piece of art every year for our anniversary, it’s so much better than the little trinkets we forget about by the next year.

    What a great philosophy–food, travel and art are definitely worth the splurge. I’m going to keep this one in mind…although we already do a splurge every year on our anniversary, a together gift to celebrate.

    I drop in almost every day but comment only rarely. Thanks for all the inspiration.
