Plastic Bins

I became a woman possessed this weekend after we bought a bunch of clear plastic storage bins. I started organizing just about everything we own and reducing it to a small box. There is something so satisfying about seeing your belongings in organized bins with the contents showing through the side and a nice label displayed on each. I wish everything I owned would fit in a storage bin. I sort of became irritated with my odd shaped belongings because I wanted them to fit neatly in a box.

Thats what I thought too but I think it probably has more to do with the fact that we might move and the thought of someone else trying to organize my stuff for me because I’m too big or too tired scares me.

I would love to see your organization system. I’m sure it’s beautiful and clever. If I organized all my belongings, they would be labelled with boringly printed labels saying nothing more interesting than “socks” or “summer bedding” and they would be all stacked on top of each other in the garage.

Any tips on getting your labels to stay stuck to plastic? I put my kiddo’s clothes in stuff like this with nice fru-fru labels and a few month later I wish I hadn’t labelled them at all, with all the curling and fading.

That’s what I was doing this weekend! One day everything in my house will be in neatly nested clear plastic containers. Possibly including my children. (JK)

This impulse will rear its head again for you when you are in your pre-school /my-life-is-chaos-and-I-need-control phase of life, appx. 4 years from now. 🙂

Miriam — I used blank name badges and I thought it worked well. They stayed put until I was ready to change them, whereupon they obliging peeled right off the bins.

You are a woman after my own heart. i am like a kid in a candy store at The Container Store. My goal is that I will no longer have a single thing in a cardboard box.

Oh I can’t wait to have a house and go crazy at the Container Store. I already use the small plastic shoe boxes for everything BUT shoes.

The “men’s” shoe boxes are great for storing magazines, programs, etc. Almost never find boxes of that size – most won’t properly fit in other boxes.
