Orleans Rug

We’ve been talking about the best way to utilize the space in our one bedroom apartment so that when “the permanent house guest” {that’s what Paul calls it} arrives we will be more organized and not just squished. One change I would like to make is to add rugs to our wood floors. My reasoning is that it will open up more space for projects and living if we feel comfortable sitting on the floor. I want something light colored and nuetral. Maybe this new rug from Crate and Barrel. It is basic but it has an interesting texture to it. {Does this mean I have to buy a vacuum now?}

    i like that rug! we still don’t own a vacuum either, just a hand vacuum. but with all hard wood floors you really don’t need a full size one (and then trying to find a place to store it- yikes!). we’ll have to buy one in our new place i guess.

    not only would it open up space for projects, but you’re likely to spend a LOT of time just playing on the floor with your baby. hardwoods wouldn’t feel so great after about 10 minutes. We have a nice semi-long shag rug in our main living area. since i have a one-year-old, i spend about 40% of my day on that rug. 🙂
    and if you get a rug like that CB one, you’d only need a handheld vaccuum, i would guess.

    I love that! Just what I should have to go with my new couch.

    But $500 is a little steep for me. (I want the 8×10) So I suggest that you buy it… realize you don’t want something that light once you have the baby… and decide to give it to me before he spits up on it. (eh, I’ll give you $250 for it!) I’ll pick it up when I’m in San Fran in Dec!
    Hee hee.

    That is a nice rug. Now that you’re in the market for one, and now that you have to buy a vacuum, perhaps you’ll post a blog about reliable, affordable, stylish vacuums? I bought a small $100 Electrolux less than a year ago, and it stopped working after six months or so. My fiance inherited an Electrolux from the 70s (very big and clunky) that STILL does the trick. Is it just the pet hair around my place, or do they not make them like they used to?

    I saw it this weekend in person and it is lovely.

    I’d get it for sure if my carpets weren’t the exact same color.

    I bought that rug to hide the hideous orange paint splattered on my living room floor courtesy of the previous owners. Yahoo!
