Small Books Swap

I signed up for this Small Books Swap sponsored by hoping for happy accidents. I liked the theme and I liked that it is small {only the first 25 people that signed up}. The mail date is tomorrow so I’m trying to finish up my package. In college I knew a girl that had taken a billion bookbinding courses and she taught me how to turn a thrift store book into a sketchbook. I decided to make one for the swap. It is quite a lengthy process. Whenever I go to thrift stores I always look for old books with interesting covers to add to my collection. I’m really excited about the books I found this week. They are so cute. I’ll show the finished products later. Here is a sample of the book I made from the Valentines Day Swap.

Your handmade books are sweet. I carried a bag full of old books from Denmark … I just love old books.

So, how do you turn an old book into a sketchbook?

I think I need some more information ( this is a great idea by the way) How do you do this?

It would be great if you could share the instruction for creating our old books into sketchbooks. Thanks much…

It is sort of a lengthy process that would be difficult to explain on a blog. Find someone that knows how to bookbind or take a bookbinding class. It involves sewing and wax and a bone folder and archival glue and an awl.

    🙂
