There Is Nothing Wrong in This Whole Wide World

I arrange my books by color. I tried it all sorts of other ways: by subject, by size, and biographical*. Nothing looked good, it just was sort of messy. These pictures are from an installation I went to back in 2004 at Adobe Bookshop. A guy rearranged the books by color and they stayed like that for a few weeks. The installation was called “There Is Nothing Wrong in This Whole Wide World.”

*I stole that idea from High Fidelity

visually i always want to organize my books that way, but i can’t decide if it’s worth the organizational confusion. i guess i should try it out while my libary is still pretty small…

I’m so glad I’m not alone … I didn’t know other people did this too 🙂

i’ve done color too. Most of my books have white binding though- so it’s not nearly as magical!

we had this for a while as well, it was funny to see that you can learn what color the books are so it is easy to find them when you are looking for a certain one.
it also made it clear that the only color the French make paperbacks in is white, how boring!

several years ago, i began organizing my books like that, and it’s so much easier for visual people like me. i think “crime and punishment” and think immediately “dark red cover”, etc. so i can always put my hands on them faster this way. not to mention, it’s pretty.
