About a month ago we realized Comcast and changed our “Comcastic introductory 6 month offer” of $50/month to $140/month. We called them and pretended that we wanted to cancel our service. We then waited patiently for them to call us back and give us a better offer {like they always do.} Well, they never called. And then they canceled our cable and asked us to return the tivo box. It was a well-laid plan gone so wrong. We still have high speed internet {I would rather cut off my arm than take that away.} But for the last month we haven’t had TV. Paul wants to just call Comcast and sign up again but I want to wait a little bit and teach them a lesson. It’s the principle of the matter.
We’ve managed to watch our few favorite shows on the computer but now we have to do things like talking to each other and reading books. 🙁 We’re just biding our time until we can call them up and ask for a “new introductory offer.”
Post Script: I want to make it clear I am a firm believer in TV. When I meet someone new and they tell me they don’t watch TV, I immediately like them a little bit less. 🙂

stop whatever you’re doing and call comcast. cancelling cable was one of the worst decisions i’ve made. i miss it dearly.

I cancelled my cable and I don’t miss it.. except when one of the members of my family says, “did you see???” Then I’m sad for 1/2 second. Instead of getting my cable back, my husband bought a really great antenna that he installed in our attic. We get all the main channels and all the public television channels. This makes it so there are some “appointment TV programs,” but, there isn’t something great every night so some nights we do read to each other or talk. I think it’s the best of both worlds. Just my opinion. And, it’s paid for… no cable bills coming this way. You know $140 X 12 is like $1,680 enough for a plane ticket somewhere really grand! Cable company are ridiculous in what they charge.

Jordan- I’m glad to know that you would like me. I’m sure for other reasons than just the T.V. thing…but I couldn’t agree more. T.V. is great! I don’t think it is at all sad that one of my favorite times of the day is putting the kids to bed and enjoying a good dose of Thursday night line up (scrubs, the office, and 30 rock).

I used to be one of those “no-tv because it’s crack for me” folks. Then I got married, and we now have two tvs all cabled up.
My husband claims we’d drop it if it weren’t a good package, but I’m hoping THEY don’t call his bluff.
Tivo (sweet Tivo!) frees me from my addiction somewhat, since it can always wait.
