Ghost Cake Toppers DIY

Here’s a super easy and clever little trick for creating cake toppers for Halloween- spray starch helps coffee filters hold their shape so that you can turn them into tiny little ghosts floating over a yummy cake.  They give new meaning to the joke “Why did the ghost starch her sheet? Because she wanted everyone to be scared stiff!

Materials needed:  round white coffee filters, can of Spray Starch, rag or old towel, old egg carton or Styrofoam block, black sharpie, bamboo skewers, 1” Styrofoam balls.

Step 1: Stick a Styrofoam ball onto a bamboo skewer. Insert into something that will hold it upright – an empty egg carton or block of Styrofoam will do.
Step 2: Lay a coffee filter flat over a rag or towel. Spray the filter with spray starch.
Step 3: Drape the wet coffee filter over the Styrofoam ball. Let dry. Using a black sharpie, add two tiny dots for eyes.
Step 4: If the bamboo skewers are too tall, snip some length off the bottom. Insert into cake. Boo!
