Tissue Paper Carnation Place Cards + Favors DIY

Here’s a happy explosion of pink in the form of a tissue paper flower – inspired by January’s flower, the carnation. This would be perfect for a baby shower with a January due date, don’t you think? You can put whatever you want inside the flower (cookies, chocolates, candy) just be sure to wrap them in saran wrap or glassine to prevent any chocolate or oils from staining the tissue paper.

Materials needed: pink tissue papers (magenta, bubblegum, baby and soft pink), pinking shears, scissors, thin wire (or string), green cardstock, hole punch, pen.

Step 1: Cut a 14″ square out of two or three layers of tissue paper. Fold in half, and in half again. Cut from top corner to top corner in a curved shape.
Step 2: Fold the cone in half again.
Step 3: Cut the curved edge with pinking shears.
Step 4: Cut 1 1/2″ fringe into the cone.
Step 5: Carefully open the circle and lay it flat.  Place your favor treat in the center.
Step 6: Gather the edges up and around the treat.
Step 7: Secure the “flower” by twisting a 2-inch piece of wire around the gather.
Step 8: Cut a 2-3 inch paper leaf out of green card stock and write your guests name on it.
Step 9: Punch a hole through the base of the leaf, and attach it to the wire under the flower.
