Cookie Cakes DIY

Today I’m super excited to share a DIY by Jodi Levine. I’ve been a huge fan of hers since I discovered her work years ago while she was working at Martha Stewart. This project is inspired by her new book Candy Aisle Crafts which comes out August 26. It’s about crafts you can make from the candy aisle and it’s genius. I preordered it last month (you can too by clicking here!) I’ve seen a sneak peek of the book and it is AMAZING. I’m thrilled to say that we’ll be giving away copies for 2 Oh Happy Day readers! Just click through below for all the contest details and to see the instructions for these brilliant little Cookie Cakes.

Cookie Cakes DIY by Jodi Levine

Teeny-tiny mini layer cakes made out of store-bought cookies are a pretty treat or a fun activity for a child’s tea party. I loved playing “store” as a kid and was crazy about anything miniature (still am!) and would have loved making fancy little cookie cakes for a pretend bakery!

Set yourself–or the kids–up with a pastry bag fitted with a star tip. You can really use any icing tip (or even a resealable sandwich bag with the bottom corner snipped off) but the star tip makes it look extra fancy! Set out small bowls or ramekins of regular sprinkles, shaped sprinkles (like hearts), red hots, alphabet cereal (the square vanilla cake has an alphabet cereal B on top), or anything you’d like. Pipe dots in a circle around the top edge of the cookie and top with another cookie. Keep adding layers until the cake is the height that you want. Adhere sprinkles or candy decorations to the top with dots of frosting.

Serve on top of mini cake stands. The homemade mini cake stands pictured here are upside-down cupcake papers, some with a trimmed-down cupcake paper glued on top. The white stand in the center is made from a small paper plate (trimmed smaller with scalloped scissors) glued onto an upside-down nut cup.

And here’s how to win a copy of Candy Aisle Crafts for yourself:

Why? My 2 three-year-old granddaughters’ tea-parties at Nonni’s (my) backyard fairy garden. Little chairs, little table, clothespin dolls wrapped in felt “lettuce-leaf” blankets. Now Mini cakes made with cookies and candy? Need I say more?

Tiny little sweets are a delight to look at and even more to eat! And because they’re so preciously small, it wouldn’t be right to stop at one, right? I’d love to add this book to my sweets collection and try them out at home.

This book is adorable. I am a house manager for a couple with 6 year old twin girls who have a birthday coming up in September. There are some great projects the kids could do for the party. Love the photography and design.

After discovering cakepops and marshmallow pops as favors for my 50th birthday I am into fun, small projects that look great yet are fairly easy to accomplish. This book seems to fit that bill perfectly. So… if people outside the USA will be considered for this give away I would like to add my name to the list ;-). Thanks!

These are so cute! I love that the book uses items you don’t have to search all over town for, or go to specialty shops to get. Would love to see the rest of the projects in the book, thanks for the giveaway!

My partner loves food and sweets so much that for his last birthday I attempted to hand-make and decorate some cupcakes. Absolute, total and utter disaster ensued. I burnt the cakes, the decorations fell apart and my three-year-old niece looked at me and simply told me her other Aunty could do much better. Needless to say this book would be a lifesaver and this year’s birthday could be a total hit for him (and me!!!).
