A Churro con Chocolat Party

Sponsored by Ghirardelli Intense Dark Chocolate . Create your escape here .

When we were in Spain last year we managed to eat churros con chocolat in just about every city and town we visited. My jeans were fitting tighter by the end of the trip but I was in heaven. I loved them so much that in Madrid we even stopped to buy a Churro Maker so we could try to make them at home. I had forgotten about it until I was reorganizing my kitchen and I found it again! Turns out they sell Churro Makers on Amazon so there is no need to head to Spain to get one (unless you want to!) Ps: my friend Andrea says she just makes them with a pastry bag and a giant frosting tip. I am planning on having a Churros con Chocolat party soon but it was fun to put together this treat with my team.  Have you ever made Churros with Chocolate? It was surprisingly easy. See below for the churro and and the dark chocolate recipe.

Find the churro recipe right here and the dipping sauce is here:

Thick Dark Chocolate Dipping Sauce

  • 1 3.5 oz Ghiradelli Dark chocolate bar
  • 1/4 – 1/2 cup half and half

Break chocolate into small pieces and place in a bowl. Heat half and half in microwave or on stovetop until steaming.

Starting with 1/4 cup, pour hot half and half over chocolate. Let stand for a minute or two to allow chocolate to soften. Whisk with a fork until chocolate is incorporated and smooth.  Add additional half and half a little at a time to reach thick consistency.

Serve warm with churros.

Hi! I live in Barcelona, Spain, and I love having churros con chocolate. They’re delicious! They were my favourite breakfast after a night out! 🙂 I’ve never made them, I always buy them. You can also have this thick chocolate with melindros, it’s a very soft cake. If you like vanilla, you’d probably like them, too. Best regards from Barcelona,
    Marta

Ohhhh I have got to have a party to do this. I often have girls wine nights, but next time it might have to be a churros night as well!

I’m from Brazil and we love churros there too, but we don’t eat it with chocolate. We make them hollow in the middle and fill them up with dulce de leche or caramel……….. it is like heaven!!!

I assume half and half is milk? It would be great to know… I would love to make this once!!

    March 21, 2013

@nelja – In the US half and half is half milk, half cream.. Plain milk might be a little thin here, so I would use cream if you can’t get half and half where you live. 🙂

    Hello,
I am from Madrid and I completely agree, churros with chocolate are delicious…if anybody is planning to visit Madrid, you should go to San Gines or Chocolateria Valor, those places are the best to eat churros and porras with chocolate in Madrid.
    Saludos,

I grew up on Churros con Chocolate!
I remember every New Years Eve in Montreal, we’d go the Spanish Social Club (both my parents are from Spain), we’d party and at 6:00am we’d have Churros con Chocolate….Man those were the days!
    Sometimes my grandma makes them….LOVE!

Oh these look amazing! I can’t wait to eat chocolate again. I currently can’t eat any dairy (milk chocolate), but when I’m done nursing I’ll be back on the chocolate wagon =) Your trip actually inspired me to learn how to make churros last year, but I did my own spin. I made chocolate flavored churros and made them in the shape of hearts.

Hi! I live in Monterrey, Mexico… the unofficial capital of churros. We have traditional churros, like the ones you blog about and “filled with..” churros. You can choose chocolate, strawberry jam, dulce de leche, cajeta and the list keeps going on. Endless choices… 🙂

It was so long ago that for the first time I tried churros con chocolate in Spain, it is still the day that I dream of a hot cup of thick cocoa with the perfectly crisp and soft pastry. Thanks for bringing back memories.

I just had churros for the first time the other day, and I really liked them. But with chocolate, that’s something I MUST try! Do you think it would work to use rolled up napkins as the little paper cone to hold them while you eat?

Hi!, I live in Argentina. Here, the churros are a typycal and famous food.
We make churros, with “churreras” in our houses.
In Argentina the most popular churro is “churro relleno con dulce de leche”., like this http://www.taringa.net/posts/recetas-y-cocina/7616243/Churros-con-dulce-de-leche.html

I like so much your blog. Congrat!…

    I hope you know Argentina,
