Relay for Life

This post is brought to you by the American Cancer Society. Join the world’s biggest fight for less cancer and more birthdays.

I am so happy to be working with the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. If you don’t know about the Relay for Life it is a special event where communities can celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost and fight back against the disease. There are over 5,000 events in the US and another 850 internationally. I actually have participated in the Relay for Life program three times. We put a team of 8 of my friends together and then during the 24 hour event each team member took turns running their shifts. It was a great experience and I have very fun memories from it. It is an important program that helps raise money in the world’s biggest fight against cancer. There are lots of ways to participate including walking the event, donating, making a luminaria, or even hosting a tent for the participants. Have you ever participated in a Relay for Life event? Please share your experience in the comments!

Ah, Relay. I joined my husband’s and his friends’ relay team when we were first dating, and it was great. Then, less than a year later he was diagnosed with cancer. Two years in a row, he took his last round of chemo (pill form) at the Relay. Five years later, we love participating in the Relay. We still have an original drawing local elementary kids drew for the survivor goody bags, it says “I’m glad you survivored cancer”. Maybe we’ll frame it! Thanks for supporting cancer research!

I was so excited to see this post this morning!! This is the 4th year I am participating in Relay and my 2nd year as part of the committee! For me, Relay is a great event to remember and celebrate the loved ones that have been touched by cancer; unfortunately, the number is too many. It has been many years since I lost my grandmother to cancer, but I continue to fight for my mom, dad, sister, friends, neighbor, coworkers, you and me. I fight for OUR FUTURE! Thank you for fighting the fight!

I’ve attended 5 events now with a large group and it’s made my relationship with my friends much closer! So proud to be doing this again this year! Always for Rose and Sully!

Thank you so much for posting about such an incredible event! I’m proud to say that not only will this be the fifth Relay For Life that I’ll be participating in but the first I’ll be helping to organize. I intern at a hospital that has partnered with the Canadian Cancer Society to host this event and we’re hoping to raise $500,000 this year!! No matter what your involvement, this is without a doubt an unbelievable experience to be a part of.

I’m a 17-year-old high school student from New Zealand, and I participated in my first Relay For Life event this year! I’m part of the Student Executive (I suppose like Stuent Council, or Prefect positions) and we entered as a school team. Two days ago we held a mini Relay For Life at school and that was a lot of fun! It’s the first time our school has done this, and for me it was just so amazing to go from planning and ideas to actually seeing 1000+ students dressed up and walking around the field! A lady from the New Zealand Cancer Society came and asked for us to send her pictures, because she might go into other schools and encourage them to hold mini Relays as well, which I’m so so excited about. 🙂
