Cake Painting Process

We are crazy busy around here putting the finishing touches on paintings and naming and framing them to get ready for the Let Them Eat Cake show this Friday. I thought it might be interesting to see the process so I grabbed these pictures from my phone.

Notes on the photos: When Paul paints after 10pm I like him to paint in the kitchen so he doesn’t have to walk home super late at night from our studio in the Mission. The second picture shows most everything blocked out but he needs to finish the background (I grabbed fresh herbs from our backyard for this painting.) For reference I choose different backdrops and cakestands and cake proportions to use for Paul to paint from. (Isn’t that vintage rose fabric amazing?) The final picture shows a cake finished and framed in the floater frame.

Don’t miss the show this Friday at 766 Valencia in San Francisco from 6pm-8pm. We’ll be serving cake! More details right here.

For those that asked all the paintings are 5×7 and are priced at $325 each. They will be for sale online on Monday, September 6th.

Love seeing pics of Paul working. He is a master with those paints. Too bad his color mixing expertise never rubbed off on me! Good luck with the show. It will be wonderful.
